Ingested Pen Still Writes After 25 Years In Woman’s Stomach

x-rayThis is from 2011, but I had to share this gem I found on ABCnews.com:

“This CT scan, published in BMJ, clearly shows a pen in the stomach of a 76-year-old woman. According to the case report, the unidentified woman accidentally swallowed the pen while using it to probe an area of her tonsils. Amazingly, the pen could still be used to write, even after a 25-year-long bath in the woman’s stomach acid.”

HuffPost and NYDaily Times clarified that it was a felt tipped pen, but the acid had destroyed any branding. So what kind of felt-tipped pen survives 25 years in an acid bath? Discuss!

Seems like a strange place to keep a writing instrument. I also have trouble understanding why or who would WANT to use this pen.

I am still trying to imagine the person who would choose to write with the pen. It is an interesting exercise in imagining. Now I would want the paperweight if I also had the pen! And to think my nephew just stuck raisins in his nose!
